03.08.2016 Nick Cave Shares Trailer for 2016 Album & Film |
|
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will unveil their new album "Skeleton Tree" on Sept. 9, preceded a day earlier by an accompanying feature film called "One More Time With Feeling". Those heading out on premiere night will get the first chance to hear the music, though Cave has just shared a trailer.
The multimedia project represents Cave’s first album since his 15-year old-son Arthur died tragically in a fall from a cliff in Brighton, England last summer. In the black and white trailer, a soul-searching Cave doesn’t specifically mention the incident, though he’s certainly calling attention to a force which affected him deeply: “What happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic, that you just change?”
“You change from a known person to an unknown person,” Cave dictates, as violin strings howl around him. “So when you look at yourself in the mirror you recognize the person that you were, but the person inside the skin is a different person.”
The Andrew Dominik-directed film features Cave and the band performing the new music, but it figures to be much more than that. As the project wore on, it took on more of the album’s “tragic backdrop,” according to a press release last June. This apparently includes dialogue between Cave and Dominik and improvised narration from the frontman.
