| 2016-11-09 | Madonna Gives Surprise Performance in New York's Washington Square Park in Support of Hillary Clinton | Madonna gave New Yorkers the surprise of a lifetime when she serenaded the crowd at Washington Square Park on Monday night (Nov. 7) with a special acoustic performance in support of Hillary Clinton.
She stood in the center of Washington Square Fountain surrounded by a group comprised mostly of NYU students who cheered as she performed covers of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Peter, Paul and Mary’s “If I Had A Hammer,” as well as her own songs “Rebel Heart” and “Like A Prayer.”
She amped up the crowd and encouraged everyone to get to the polls Tuesday (Nov. 8) to vote, saying, “Vote with your heart, vote with your mind, vote with your spirit, vote with your soul. Save this country, please.”
Madge has been supporting Clinton throughout the campaign, from talking about the election while opening for Amy Schumer to stripping down with Katy Perry for the cause.

| 2012-11-02 | Crystal Castles slam Katy Perry of sexualising children | Crystal Castles have launched a furious tirade against Katy Perry, branding the pop star "evil" and accusing her of "selling sex" to children.
The dance duo is astonished at some of Perry's risque concert routines and tour merchandise, and has slammed her for wearing her notorious 'cream-shooting' bra.
They are adamant the "I Kissed a Girl" hitmaker should be more responsible around her young audience and blame her for "sexualising" youngsters.
Singer Alice Glass tells NME magazine, "I think a lot of (pop stars) sell sex to children. I think a lot of kids are more sexualised now than they were years ago and I'm not sure it's a coincidence. Like f**king Katy Perry spraying people with her f**king d**k, her f**king c** gun c**ming on f**king children. And little girls, like six-year-old girls wearing a shirt with 'I wanna see your (pea) cock' on it."
Keyboard player/producer Ethan Kath says, "On the merch (merchandise) for that (Perry) song Peacock, the 'Pea' is on a different line so you don't see it. She sells it to f**king children."
Glass adds, "It's f**king evil. Don't prey on vulnerable people like that. Don't encourage little girls to get dressed up, to have cupcakes on their t**s to get people to lick them off, 'cos that's what you're insinuating."

| 2012-11-01 | Katy Perry to pay tribute to Carole King at special event | Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and John Legend are joining forces to pay tribute to veteran singer/songwriter Carole King at the home of the Oscars in December.
The stars will perform King's hits with her as part of "A Celebration of Carole King & Her Music" at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Amy Grant, Herb Alpert, Quincy Jones and Vince Gill have also been confirmed for the show, which will benefit the late Paul Newman's Painted Turtle Camp for kids with serious illnesses and their families.

| 2010-08-06 | Perry defends quick wedding to Brand | Pop star Katy Perry has defended her decision to wed Russell Brand so soon after meeting, insisting the comedian has helped to stabilise her hectic life.
The "I Kissed A Girl" hitmaker first met Brand at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and the couple became engaged in December during a romantic holiday in India.
She admits her friends and family were shocked at the speed at which their romance progressed, but Perry is convinced he's exactly what she needs to keep her grounded.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, she says, "Some people were like, 'Whoa, marriage so soon - your whole life!' But Russell has really made me more stable. I'm burning at such incredible speed that I need someone stronger than me."
And Perry is not concerned about the funnyman's past reputation as a drug and sex-crazed Lothario - because her own father dabbled in mind-altering substances during his years as a hippie before finding God and becoming a Christian minister.
She adds, "(Brand) has never given me any reason to doubt him. A difficult past is part of my dad's testimony too. I think Russell is a great example of how you can change. Beyond his addiction, he's a sensitive person, and emotional like a lot of good actors. He's sweet and lovely."
The couple is planning to marry later this year.

| 2010-08-05 | Snoop Dogg switched Gurls lyrics to avoid lawsuit | Rapper Snoop Dogg was forced to change his verse on Katy Perry's "California Gurls" after the Beach Boys threatened to sue for referencing their original "California Girls" anthem.
The ageing rockers released their summer smash in 1965 and Snoop Dogg decided to pay tribute to the band in a line on Perry's pop song, about wishing all the girls could be "California Girls".
But the Beach Boys objected to the lyric, citing copyright infringement, and served Perry's label bosses with a legal notice - prompting the hip-hop star to alter his verse, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
Ironically, Beach Boy Brian Wilson recently gave the singer's track his seal of approval after learning she wrote the 2010 summer hit as a tribute to his group's fun-loving surf pop.
He told the Los Angeles Times, "I love her vocal. She sounds very clear and energetic... The melody is infectious."

| 2010-08-04 | Lady Gaga receives record VMA nods | Lady GaGa is set to dominate the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) - the pop star has landed a record-breaking 13 nominations.
The "Poker Face" hitmaker haul marks the most ever VMA nominations scored by one artist in a single year.
Gaga has received nods in a string of different categories including Best Pop Video, Best Dance Music Video, Best Female Video, Best Choreography and Best Collaboration.
The delighted singer says, "I'm so honoured for all the little monsters (fans) and self-professed freaks of the universe to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number - 13.
"A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous (sic). Thank you, MTV!"
Gaga will compete against herself in for Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and the Video of the Year - her Video Phone collaboration with Beyonce will go head-to-head with Bad Romance in all three categories.
"Tik Tok" by Ke$ha, "California Gurls" by Katy Perry and Taylor Swift's "Fifteen" will also compete for the Best Female Video award, while "California Gurls", "Tik Tok" and "Nothin' On You" by B.O.B. featuring Bruno Mars will also fight for the Best Pop Video honour.
Rap superstar Eminem, who landed eight nominations, will challenge Gaga for the coveted Video of the Year title with his single "Not Afraid", while the song will also battle for Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video. Drake's star-studded "Forever", which features Eminem alongside Kanye West and Lil Wayne, is also a contender for Best Hip-Hop Video.
Meanwhile, Ke$ha's hit track has also scored the pop star a nod for the Best New Artist prize, going up against Justin Bieber ("Baby"), Jason Derulo ("In My Head"), Nicki Minaj ("Massive Attack") and Broken Bells ("The Ghost Inside").
The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on 12 September.

The I Kissed A Girl star unveiled the risque album cover for Teenage Dream online on Wednesday - and admits she wanted to titillate.
Los Angeles-based artist Will Cotton captured Perry lying nude in strategically placed clouds of cotton candy.
Cotton was also the creative director for Perry's California Gurls video.
Perry says, "I wanted to do something really off-the-cuff and not proper.
"It's (painting) so gorgeous... This is my first piece of real art, except my posters on the wall of Gwen Stefani when I was growing up."

Katy Perry is happy her career took off when she was in her twenties - because she's avoided the fate of many child stars who "mess up" in the spotlight.
The singer found fame with the release of her debut single, "I Kissed A Girl", in 2008 when she was aged 23, and she's convinced that not hitting the headlines as a teenager has saved her from a lot of controversy.
She tells Radio 2, "My first record didn't take off until I was 23 so I was perhaps in a different headspace to someone who became successful at a younger age. If you're starting at 14 or 15 your maturity hasn't fully evolved.
"I'm not going to say I won't mess up, because someday I might want to shave my head. I'm lucky because I have a great support system."

Katy Perry needed 17 stitches in her leg after injuring herself dancing following the MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday.
The "I Kissed A Girl" hitmaker was admitted to a local hospital in Toronto, Canada after she sliced open her leg while partying at a nightclub following the ceremony.
The singer was later spotted sporting a bandage on her right calf during a promotional performance in Toronto on Tuesday.
But she laughed off the accident on Twitter.com ahead of the show, writing: "17 stitches later... Don't make fun of my dance moves tomorrow. That's what got me here in the 1st place! Thanks for the souvenir Canada!
"Thinking about getting a candy cane walker made for this performance coming up... I will be expecting YOU to dance for me, okay?!"

Katy Perry banned all heterosexual men from the set of her California Gurls video - because she didn't want them to see her naked.
Russell Brand's fiancee strips off in the sexy new promo, which sees her lying nude on cloud of cotton candy in one shot, while covering her breasts with cakes in another.
And Perry made sure it was a closed set on the day of filming - except for girls and gay men.
She tells MTV News, "The cotton candy clouds! I was naked. It was really fun to do. We had to do like a closed set because we didn't want anyone seeing anything.
"You weren't allowed (on the set) unless you were a girl or you're gay; I think that's probably like the standard for all girlfriends.
"Anyways, I was really excited to do something like this and really nervous. But it turned out (okay)."

| 2009-09-10 | Body Count Is Back! | Body Count, the metal band fronted by legendary rapper Ice-T, made an appearance this past Sunday night (September 6) at the Vans Warped Tour 15th-anniversary party at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. The group played a 20-minute set, covered Slayer, talked a ton of trash and closed with their controversial classic "Cop Killer". Also on the bill were NoFX, Katy Perry, Pennywise, Bad Religion и Rise Against.

Lyrically, the songs ranged from political ("The End Game"), personal ("You Don't Know Me [Pain]"), and religious ("The Passion Of The Christ"), to obsession ("In My Head"), armegeddon ("Dirty Bomb"), hate ("Lies") and relationships. A eulogy for fallen band member D-Roc was also included ("D Rocs [RIP]") as was a hilarious take on deep south rednecks ("Down In The Bayou"). The CD closed with "Mr. C's Theme", a show-stopping hard-rock instrumental.
