Green Day Disses Donald Trump While Performing "American Idiot" at the 2016 MTV EMAs
Well, Green Day certainly can't be accused of having poor timing. Two days before the 2016 American presidential election, one of the most divisive elections in recent U.S. history, the iconic group arrived at the MTV EMAs to accept their Global Icon Award and, fittingly, decided to play a song over a decade old, busting out their 2004 hit "American Idiot." And there was little doubt as to what (or who) they were referring.
After performing their single "Bang Bang" from their latest album, Revolution Radio, earlier in the evening, the band emerged again to accept their award from actor Idris Elba, with front man Billie Joe Armstrong taking a moment to address the timing of the situation. "Most of all, it's nice to be out of America just for a second, because of this horrendous election that's going on right now," he said. "Our entire country is about to have one big, collective heart attack."
"American Idiot," then, originally written to protest president George W. Bush and the wars and lies of his early-to-mid-2000s administration, became the perfect way to back up Armstrong's sentiments during an election that has seemed to last longer, and produced much more vitriol, than any other. "Can you hear the sound of hysteria? / The subliminal mind-Trump America," he sang, tweaking the lyrics at the beginning of the song.
With fans chanting along, the band launched into the final chorus a capella before the devastating power of its instrumentation kicked back in and delivered the awards show a forceful (and fitting) conclusion. Check out the video of Green Day's "American Idiot" performance here.

Green Day Postpones Several Tour Dates Due to Illness
An unspecified illness among band and crew members on Green Day’s tour has led to postponements and a cancelation on their itinerary.
A statement issued by the band said three of the first four dates of the tour (St. Louis on Sept. 20, Chicago on Sept. 21 and Detroit on Sept. 24) are postponed, while a Toronto appearance scheduled at the World Cup of Hockey Fan Village on Sept. 23 is canceled.
Tickets will be honored at the St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit concerts when they are rescheduled, or fans can get a refund at their point of purchase.
“We're so sad to announce we have to postpone three shows and cancel Toronto. Many of us have been battling this infection for days on end to be ready, and it just got the best of us,” the band said.
As of press time, Green Day will resume its tour on Sept. 26 in Columbus, Ohio.
Green Day resume tour with triumphant arena return
Rockers Green Day returned to the road in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday to perform their first arena concert since frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's rehab stint last year.
"The American Idiot" hitmakers were forced to scrap a series of appearances and tour dates in September after the singer suffered a meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas and checked into a treatment facility to deal with substance abuse issues.
They bounced back with a handful of warm-up shows in smaller venues earlier this month and on Thursday they hit the stage at Chicago's Allstate Arena to resume their U.S. tour.
The rockers were welcomed with rapturous applause as they emerged for the show and they delighted fans with a hits-packed set, including "Holiday", "St. Jimmy", "When I Come Around" and "Basket Case", as well as renditions of Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child O'Mine" and AC/DC's "Highway to Hell".
Addressing his recent troubles, Armstrong told the enthusiastic crowd, "It's been a slightly unpredictable path. But I wouldn't trade it for the world." Source: Ananova

30 Seconds To Mars lead Kerrang! Awards
30 Seconds To Mars and Paramore are leading the nominations ahead of the upcoming Kerrang! Awards - scoring four nods apiece.
Both bands will compete in the Best Album category, with Jared Leto's group nominated for their recent record "This Is War" and Paramore for "Brand New Eyes". They face competition from Biffy Clyro ("Only Revolutions"), Bullet For My Valentine ("Fever") and You Me At Six ("Hold Me Down").
Leto insists he is "very grateful" for the nominations, while Paramore singer Hayley Williams, adds, "We're so stoked (excited) our fans voted for us in all these categories."
The two groups will also go up against each other in three other categories for Best Video, Best International Band and Best Live Band.
They will compete with Metallica, Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold for the Best International Band trophy, while the Best British Band honour will be fought out by Bullet For My Valentine, Enter Shikari, The King Blues, Lostprophets and You Me At Six.

Green Day to headline T In The Park
Green Day and Foo Fighters have confirmed that they will headline this year's T In The Park festival.
The festival takes place over the weekend of July 9-10 at Balado, Scotland reports NME.com.
The Killers, Ian Brown, Kasabian, Prodigy, Audioslave, Embrace, Keane, Razorlight, Biffy Clyro, The Streets, Beautiful South and The Coral have already been confirmed.
Festival organiser Geoff Ellis said: It's fantastic to welcome back Green Day to the event - this time in a headline slot. In addition, we have already secured some of the biggest and best acts of the moment including Keane and The Streets."

U2 to play at Grammy Awards
U2 have confirmed they will play at the Grammy Awards.
Other acts to play include Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw and Green Day at the event on 13 February in Los Angeles.
U2 are nominated twice for their recent single Vertigo, including a nomination for best rock song.
Kanye West leads this year's nominations. He is up for 10 awards reports BBC online.
Ellen Degeneres and Christine Milian will present awards at the event.

New album for Green Day
Green Day are to release a new album, American Idiot, this autumn.
The follow-up to 2000's Warning was made with with longtime producer Rob Cavallo.
Idiot is culled from 35 songs the group recorded earlier this year, reports Rolling Stone.
