2008-11-14 | ARSIS: European tour and new members announced! | There is a lot going on in the land of Arsis these days, states the band’s founding member/guitarist/lead vocalist Jim Malone. For starters, we will be heading overseas in a few weeks for our first European tour ever where we have the pleasure of sharing the stage with Morbid Angel, Kataklysm, Marduk, and Keep Of Kalessin. We are all so excited for this! Since the departure of Noah Martin from the band, we have been performing with a new bassist named Nick Cordle. I can not say enough good things about Nick; he is truly an amazing musician. Aside from being a great bassist, he fucking rips on guitar. He is without a doubt one of the best musicians I have ever had a chance to play with. We would also like to thank Shawn Priest for playing drums with us for the past four months and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Starting with the European tour, we will be working with drummer David Kinkade, formerly of Malevolent Creation. Source: NuclearBlast |

"Appointment With Death", the latest Lizzy masterpiece, like all of Borden’s records, is a conceptual album about…well it’s about death, what else?
“Oddly enough, writing eleven songs about death was no easy task for me; lyrically being graphic or grotesque would have been too easy, and being overly morbid would bring nothing new to the concept. I wrote this just like I have all of the other LB recordings, as a play or a movie. There is a beginning, middle and an end with the lead character taking us on a journey. Death is all around us, lurking, waiting to pounce, striking fear in the living and infecting us in many different ways, I tried to explore some of those ways in the most poetic way that I know how” commented Lizzy.
The album includes a plethora of guest performances: George Lynch (Dokken/Lynch Mob), Dave Meniketti (Y&T), Corey Beaulieu (Trivium), Jonas Hansson (Silver Mountain), Eric Rutan (Hate Eternal/ex-Morbid Angel), Michael T. Ross (Angel/Hardline), Adam Cameron, Zane, and Marliese Quance. These aren’t simply guest performances, however. Each artist contributed something unique to complete the fatalistic tapestry that is "Appointment With Death".

2007-01-11 | Arsis - sign with Nuclear Blast! | When it comes to seminal death metal bands from North America, the East Coast alone can boast the likes of the genre's greatest staples such as Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, Death, Morbid Angel, and Nile. With West Virginia's legacy of being the only state formed as a direct result of the American Civil War, it's no wonder that Arsis have continued this tide of insurgence - albeit in the musical realm. The band, which derived its name from the musical phrase "arsis and thesis" meaning unstressed (up-) and stressed (down-) beats respectively, is righteously tinged with black & thrash metal influences but is completely dedicated to expanding the reaches of melodicism and technicality in the genre of death metal.
Checking-in from their current tour with God Forbid, Mnemic, and Goatwhore, founding member/guitarist/bassist/lead vocalist and former Berklee College of Music student James Malone has this to say about the newly-inked worldwide collaboration with Nuclear Blast Records:
"Since the conception of ARSIS, I hoped to see the band as a part of the Nuclear Blast roster. Four years later, this is now a reality. I expect great things this coming year; the band is now a four piece, solid tours are on the way, and we have a fantastic label behind us 100%. I am more excited now about the potential of the band than I have ever been."
All of the ARSIS recordings (which include two demos, one EP, and two full-length albums) have won them many fans among the metal underground, the metal press, and metal musicians themselves. Their 2004 debut, A Celebration Of Guilt, was praised to hell and back by Revolver Magazine as "the best in the genre since At The Gates' legendary swan song [Slaughter Of The Soul]."
Given their current momentum in support of their latest album, United In Regret, and with, as Malone states, "our most brutal release coming in 2008," ARSIS are well on their way to making their discography absolutely essential for any fan with an extreme music library. Source: NuclearBlast |
2003-12-17 | Morbid Angel Chooses Suffocation For U.S. Tour | Reunited New York death metallers Suffocation have been confirmed as direct support slot on Morbid Angel's upcoming U.S. tour, scheduled for mid-March through April. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.
As previously reported, Suffocation have set "Souls To Deny" as the title for their first full-length release since 1995's "Pierced From Within", tentatively due in the spring through Relapse Records. The songwriting process for the follow-up to the 1998 "Despise The Sun" EP has reached the midway point and plans exist for the band to self-produce the CD during January.
Suffocation's current lineup consists of founding members Frank Mullen (vocals), Terrance Hobbs (guitar), Mike Smith (drums) and Josh Barohn (bass), plus longtime friend Guy Marchais (guitar, formerly of Pyrexia and Internal Bleeding). Source: BlabberMouth |
2003-07-23 | Morbid Angel Filming New Video | Veteran death metallers Morbid Angel are currently filming a video for the track "Enshrined by Grace" (song #2) from their upcoming "Heretic" album, due in the U.S. on September 23 (a day earlier internationally) through Earache Records. The band are planning to embark on an extensive world tour in early 2004 to promote the release.
As previously reported, "Heretic" was recorded and mixed at D.O.W. (Diet Of Worms) studios in Seffner, Florida and was co-produced by the band and longtime front-of-house mixing engineer Juan "Punchy Gonzalez. The album — the group's ninth overall release (including their 1986 "Abominations Of Desolation" demo and the 1996 live album, "Entangled In Chaos") — marks a return to the fold of bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker, who originally left the band in early April 2001 due to "personal and family problems." Tucker was temporarily replaced by Hate Eternal bassist/vocalist Jared Anderson but rejoined the band earlier this year amid rumors of a possible reunion with former vocalist David Vincent.
