Furore Normanorum

An omen dark as night
On the Northern British Shores
As out from the horizon
Came a sound unheard before
Mighty cries of warriors
As the Northships approached land
The holy British island
Would soon come to an end

A pious peaceful village
With an Abbey on its hills
Was the target of the Northmen
All Christians they would kill
Terror spread in Lindisfarne
As the Vikings lurked in shadow
Trampled upon the Christians
And slain the priests of god

"A Furore Normanorum Libera Nos Domine!"

With hands clenched in prayer
The monks begged on their knees
Their god failed to bring salvation
From these warriors of the seas
A trail of blood and fire
The Northmen left behind
Raided village after village
Killing those not of their kind

The gods they praised in slaughter
With Axes held up high!
Their war-cries echo in valleys
In seas, in mists and skies
The strength of these barbarians
No one could withstand
Forayed city after city
To thus conquer lord and land
