The threat of war beckoned loudly So we built up our forces and allies. The suspicion of clandestine sympathies Gave us the right to detain our foes. As war began to break out in far-flung lands, We decided to try to pre-empt her demands. A covert concord giving each of us rights To a sizeable slice of the continent grand. She agreed to our terms, giving nothing away, Unspoken to all was our earlier rapport. The pact was then signed, our rights were assured, There was naught to do now but prepare the onslaught.
