2004-10-21Courtney admits gig fracas
Courtney Love has pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after hitting a man on the head with a microphone stand during a gig in New York. Gregory Burgett, 24, needed hospital treatment after the incident in the Plaid club in Manhattan on 18 March reports BBC online. Judge Melissa Jackson granted Ms Love a discharge on condition she pays the victim's medical bills, joins a drug programme and stays out of trouble. If Ms Love violates the conditions, she could face 15 days in jail. Speaking after the Manhattan Criminal Court hearing, Ms Love said: "I just wanted it to be over." Mr Burgett needed three staples in his head to close the wound after the incident during Ms Love's show. She was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and third-degree assault. Those charges were reduced to one count of disorderly conduct. The widow of Nirvana star Kurt Cobain is also facing an assault charge in California for allegedly attacking a woman with a bottle at an ex-boyfriend's home in April. A preliminary hearing has been set in Los Angeles for 27 October.

2004-06-08Madonna has landed a new film role
Madonna has landed a new film role - playing a gunslinging 1920s cowgirl. The singer will play silent movie star Texas Guinan in Martin Scorsese's big-screen musical Hello Sucker! The tale is based on the life of legendary bareback horserider Guinan who appeared in Hollywood Westerns. She also became a rebel nightclub host who openly flouted Prohibition laws. She kick-started her stage shows with the hellraising catchphrase Hello Sucker! The Sun says Madonna will co-produce the film with Scorsese and will also write the music. It will be shot next year and the soundtrack will be her next album, with the first single a cover of 1920s hit There'll Be Some Changes Made. The movie will be directed by Jeremy Scott who masterminded Madonna's anti-war video for her hit American Life. The film arm of her production company Maverick bought the rights to the film in 2001 and planned a stage show but later hit on the movie idea. Madonna's been laying down tracks for it since last year. Courtney Love was cast as Guinan and even wrote some songs but she has been dropped over her recent drug troubles.
