2004-06-17 | First Duran Duran album in 20 years | The original five members of Duran Duran are to release their first studio album for two decades later this year.
Billboard says the new album, the first featuring all five since Seven and the Ragged Tiger in 1983, will be out in the autumn.
It's being produced by Rich Harrison, who has worked with Usher and Alicia Keys, as well as Linkin Park and Avril Lavigne's producer Don Gilmore.
The 1980s band have been enjoying something of a comeback in recent months, winning a gong at the Brit Awards and seeing their Greatest Hits collection back in the top ten.
Lead singer Simon Le Bon says that while they will not be trying to recreate their old sound, they want to keep enough of their musical heritage so that their old fans can still relate to them.
"We wouldn't want to lose them by trying too hard, by trying to connect with a new audience," he said.
He adds that the band, who split up in the late 1980s to follow separate projects, are now closer than ever.
"It's very similar to how it worked 20 years ago," he said.
"Everybody's a little bit more open to how they feel about stuff."
The album will be the band's first to be released under the Epic label. Source: Ananova |
