2009-05-12 | The Berzerker Courting Controversy With Underage Lesbian Anthem And Clip | Australian industrial extreme metallers Berzerker, internationally renowned as one of the most brutal extreme metal bands performing today, are no strangers to controversy.
With five albums of extreme brutality, nightmarish lyrics, and worldwide tours chequered by audience riots, they have won themselves no shortage of mainstream protestors and diehard metal fans.
However, this latest move has the potential not only to further inflame their detractors, but potentially to alienate metal audiences likewise. The Berzerker have released a video clip of them performing a cover song.
A pop song.
Nobody could forget the Russian pop sensation T.A.T.U. with their high-pitched screeching on #1 track "All The Things She Said" — a ridiculously catchy song whose popularity was largely due to their status as underage lesbians and the film clip of the two girls kissing in school uniform in the rain.
Yes, The Berzerker, extreme metal band, has covered "All The Things She Said", underage lesbian anthem. And, of course, the accompanying film clip had to up the ante on the original, featuring two of Australia's best-known fetish models getting raunchy and inspiring two schoolgirl viewers to explore their own sexuality, and each other, in their child-like bedroom.
The film clip has been on YouTube for only a matter of hours and has already not only had a record number of views and comments declaring it to be "the greatest film clip in the world ever," with fans demanding the track be released as a single for sale; but has also received a record number of complaints, with the clip, despite having no nudity nor violence, being restricted to 18+ status.
Stay tuned for the next instalment in what is likely to be an ongoing controversy, and SEE THE CLIP NOW before further complaints see it removed altogether! Source: DarkSide.ru |
2004-09-21 | Tatu to relaunch without lesbian tag | Tatu are said to be relaunching themselves in an effort to shake off their lesbian tag.
Lena Katina and Julia Volkova may even change the name of their band, says The Sun.
An insider told the paper: "The truth is the girls were never lesbians in the first place. They feel like they were exploited. They were only aged 14 and 15 when they started singing in concert halls and doing sexy routines.
"They still want to be controversial and shocking. They want to look and act hotter than ever before - but not as lesbians. Julia and Lena are getting rid of their skimpy school uniforms in favour of a sassier, sexier look."
Tatu topped the charts for four weeks in February 2003 with All The Things She Said.
They are now in talks with producer Trevor Horn, who plans to showcase their comeback at a Prince's Trust concert in November. Source: Ananova |
2004-06-09 | Tatu change name | Russian pop duo Tatu have changed their name to t.E.m.A. and will release their first single under the new name later this month.
Julia Volkova and Elena Katina were forced in to the name change after breaking with manager Ivan Shapovalov, who held the rights to the Tatu name.
Russian daily newspaper Utro said the girls were also planning to admit they were heterosexual to reflect the fact they have "grown up" over the past year.
They also want to be treated as serious musicians.
Their new producer Boris Renskiy says it would be hard for the pair to continue to claim to be lesbians because Julia is pregnant. He said the lesbian idea was merely a gimmick thought up by Shapovalov.

2004-05-17 | 'Lesbian' pop star pregnant | Julia Volkova, who makes up one half of supposedly lesbian pop group Tatu, has admitted that she's pregnant.
The 19-year-old, who once said she'd like to marry her singing partner Lena Katina, said the baby was due at the end of the summer.
Speaking to Russian daily newspaper Zhizn, Volkova said: "I don't know if I am going to have a girl or a boy and I don't want to know before it is born."
Father of the child is long-term boyfriend Pasha Sidorov, a martial arts expert who already has a wife and daughter.
Speaking about their relationship Volkova said: "Obviously we will not be celebrating a wedding."
The girls who soared to number one in the UK on the back of massive publicity over their alleged lesbian relationship and steamy on-stage antics have said they will keep working together.
Katina said she would wait until Julia was ready before continuing their pop career and did not want to bring in a substitute for her pregnant colleague.

2003-07-17 | Tatu to split? | Tatu's manager Ivan Shapovalov has hinted that the girls could be heading for a split after a bitter power struggle.
Julia Volkova and Lena Katina reportedly consider each other rivals and have fallen out over their roles in the band.
Pravda reports red-headed Lena is unhappy that Julia has taken on the role of leader of the band, leaving her to be "girl number two".
Julia, whose new boyfriend Pasha, a 23-year-old karate black-belt and teetotal sports enthusiast, has also caused problems with a jealous Lena.
The girls recently took a short break but refused to spend it together, with Lena staying at her parent's holiday home in Russia and Julia refusing to tell anyone where she was going.
Now Shapovalov has increased speculation over an upcoming split saying: "When things are not working out well people often get the feeling that they want to quit and go. This could happen to Julia.
"Just because people work together doesn't mean they don't want to do something on their own."
