2010-07-12 | Nightfall: "Astron Black" Track Listing, Artwork Unveiled |
The cover artwork for "Astron Black And The Thirty Tyrants", the new album from reformed Greek metalers Nightfall - featuring frontman and lyricist Efthimis Karadimas alongside Evan Hensley on guitar, Stathis Kassios on keyboards and Jörg Uken on drums — can be viewed below. The CD is scheduled for release on August 31 (one day earlier internationally) via Metal Blade Records. The cover artwork was created by Travis Smith (Opeth, Death, Nevermore, Katatonia).
Commented the band: "The front cover depicts the sea, the grand opposite of the sky-cum-space, and the means we humans are inventing to explore the unexplored. We are part of this universe and we use its planets to navigate, to tune our lives through the 'time' set by their motion, and who knows, may be to escape to some day in the future."

2009-08-27 | Katatonia: In Mixing Mode | Swedish masters of melancholy Katatonia have begun mixing their eighth studio album, "Night Is The New Day", for a November 2 European release (November 10 in North America) via Peaceville Records. Vocalist Jonas P. Renkse states, "We've currently nailed five songs out of 12 and we're continuing to nail one song per day, so on September 1, the album is going to be completed."
Regarding his vocal performance on the CD, Renkse says, "Even though I had done much of the vocal parts/ideas already on the demos, I couldn't imagine the extent of what was about to come. Starting out, I was feeling better than I thought, since I had problems with my throat earlier during the recording. It wasn't a cold as I first expected; I have no idea what it was/is, but it has affected me in some ways.
"More tracks nailed and listening back, I realize that I've never sung this MUCH on an album before. Not that I'm singing ALL THE TIME (don't worry), but the vocals are much more demanding. I hope it is because the singing is better, and not because my throat is worse."
The artwork for "Night Is The New Day" (see here) was once again designed by Travis Smith and closes the visual concept for "The Great Cold Distance" phase.
The new material was previously described by the band as "our most varied, diverse and possibly strongest shit all together on one and the same album."
"The Great Cold Distance" was released in 2006 via Peaceville. The follow-up to 2003's "Viva Emptiness" was recorded at Fascination Street studios in the outskirts of Örebro, Sweden and was mastered at the Cutting Room in Stockholm.

2008-10-24 | God Forbid: post Merauder cover version online! | As part of “Covering 20 Years Of Extremes”, a special compilation 2CD celebrating Century Media Record’s 20th anniversary,God Forbid has recorded a cover version of the song "Master Killer" originally by legendary NYC Metal/Hardcore crossover band Merauder. Here’s what Doc has to say about the track:
“Merauder was one of the first CM bands we collectively got into. Although we're a metal band, we came up in the hardcore scene, so covering Merauder really honored our roots! They were an under exposed band, so we hope to shed light to those who don't know and pay respects to the die hards who've appreciated Merauder all these years. I think people will enjoy this tribute."
Century Media will share tracks from this special release, which is available now in Europe and the US, with you in weekly turns until the end of the year, so listen to GOD FORBID’s version of “Master Killer” at Century Media Myspace NOW!
God Forbid have finished the recordings for their highly anticipated follow-up to “IV: The Constitution Of Treason” (2005), which is expected to surface in February 2009.
The new album was produced by Eric Rachel (Atreyu, Red Chord) with Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory, Threat Signal) handling all vocal tracking and Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Katatonia, Symphony X) taking over mixing duties at Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden. In 2009 God Forbid shall triumphantly return with their most mature and diverse effort to date that will easily position them as of one the most innovative bands within the genre.
Also, don’t forget to check out the band’s stunning first official DVD “Beneath The Scars Of Glory And Progression”, which has been released earlier this year. A trailer can be watched here!
