Rod Stewart says he is "over the moon" as he celebrates his 15th number one record.
The 68-year-old star admitted he was "very proud" to be back at the top of the charts with new album Time.
The first time Stewart - known for hits like "Maggie May" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" - topped the album charts was in 1971 with "Every Picture Tells A Story".
His last number one in the UK was in 1983 with the single "Baby Jane".
Stewart said the secret of the new record's success was that it drew on his long experience of life.
"I've lived a wonderful life and when I was putting the book together it inspired many of the songs.
"If there's anything that God gave, and some people may disagree, he gave me a tremendous vehicle in my voice.
"It's just very unique, so I was just lucky to be given this voice."
Time features 12 new songs, 11 of which he wrote himself, and is also produced by the avid Celtic and Manchester United fan.
Twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he has sold an estimated 150 million records worldwide since his music career started in the early 1960s.
He was made CBE in 2007, released a bestselling autobiography last year and will embark on on a global tour next month.
Asked what keeps him going after achieving so much, he said: "The music business and my children - I've got lots of kids, I still play football and I don't smoke which is a very important thing."
Stewart was not the only 70s star to make a top 10 comeback this week. ABBA singer Agnetha Faltskog came in at number six with her album A, her highest-charting solo record in the UK. Source: Ananova

BURST recorded their fifth full-length at Studio Bohussound (Status Quo, ABBA) in Kungalv, Sweden with engineer Fredrik Reinedahl (Opeth, In Flames, Gadget). Queen is an Abba fan
The Queen is an Abba fan - and even has a collection of records by the Swedish group.
According to a Palace insider, her Majesty occasionally likes to dance to their music.
"She moves to the music," the source told The Sun.
The Queen's secret passion was revealed after Prince Charles was invited to watch Abba musical Mamma Mia in the West End on June 10.
The source said: "It will be interesting to see if the Queen tries to get her hands on the tickets.
