2008-08-22 | Bloc Party deny LP leak worries | Bloc Party have denied that they rushed the release of their new album to prevent it from leaking on the internet.
Frontman Kele Okereke said that while it was "harsh" their last album, A Weekend In The City, appeared on the internet weeks before its release, it was not a motivation behind releasing their new album so quickly.
Kele told BBC 6Music: "It’s more the fact that we didn’t want to sit on the record for six months again, which is what we’ve done with our previous records."
Drummer Matt Tong also said he felt everyone in the band had to keep the album release a secret - Matt himself even had to lie to his mum, which he said was "horrible".

2008-07-22 | Bloc Party and Sex Pistols in race rumble | Kele Okereke has claimed that he was the victim of an "unprovoked racial attack" by Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon and his entourage.
Bloc Party frontman Kele said he was left with severe facial bruising following a fight that broke out backstage at Summercase festival in Barcelona on Saturday (July 19).
According to NME, Lydon reacted in an "intimidating and aggressive" manner after Kele asked him whether Public Image Ltd, Lydon’s post-Pistols band, could ever reform.
In a statement issued to British police, Okereke claimed that Lydon’s entourage reacted with a racist tirade that included the statement, “Your problem is your black attitude.”
The resulting fight was apparently stooped by Foals singer Yannis Philippakis and Kaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson.
Okereke said in a statement: "It's not an issue of the physical assault, even though it was an unprovoked attack. It is the fact that race was brought into the matter so readily."
He added: "I am disappointed that someone I held with such high regard turns out to be such a bigot." Source: Ananova |
2008-07-09 | Bloc Party announce new single | Bloc Party premiered their new single Mercury on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show last night (July 8).
The band sparked rumours of new material on the horizon after a mysterious countdown timer appeared on their website two days ago.
When the timer hit zero, a link to Zane's show appeared on the site. Later that evening, Bloc Party joined Lowe in the studio to premiere the new song.
Frontman Kele Okereke told Lowe: "We are making the record I always wanted us to make, so we just can't wait for it to be done."
According to a spokesperson, the song may or may not appear on Bloc Party's third album, which is expected before the end of the year.
Mercury will be released as a single August 11. Source: Ananova |
